compact crossover American automobile concern Ford Motors. By releasing the first crossover in its model line, the European division of Ford posed a serious challenge to its competitors, who had dominated the market for a long period. Today, compact urban crossovers are the most popular cars on secondary market, thanks to its attractive appearance and good cross-country ability, our today's hero occupies not the last place in this segment. Today we will try to figure out what disadvantages you will encounter when you become the owner of a used Ford Kuga, and what you should pay attention to when choosing a car of this model.

A little history:

The first prototype of the Ford Iosis X () was presented in 2006 at the Paris Motor Show, a year later at the Frankfurt Motor Show the company presented the concept of the new product. The official premiere of the production model took place at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008, and sales of the car started in the same year. The first generation Ford Kuga was developed specifically for the European market and assembled in Germany. The car is built on the C1 platform, which underlies the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and Ford C-Max.

In 2011, the Ford Vertek concept was first presented at the Detroit auto show, which became the prototype of the second generation Ford Kuga. Production model inherited from him front bumper, radiator grille, shape rear lights and salon. The Ford Kuga 2, aimed at the US market, was officially unveiled in November 2011 in Los Angeles as the Ford Escape. Ford Kuga 2 for the European market was presented in Geneva in March 2012, and in April of the same year the new Ford Kuga could be viewed in Beijing. And only in August the Kuga car was presented in Moscow. In 2016, the crossover was restyled, as a result of which Kuga acquired a new Ford corporate style, which was already used in the Explorer model.

Advantages and disadvantages of the first generation Ford Kuga with mileage

The paintwork is of average quality, despite this, most specimens aged 7-10 years look good. As for the corrosion resistance of the body, there are practically no comments here either. But, chrome-plated body elements are not well suited for use in our realities and quickly lose their presentation ( peels off the chrome). When inspecting the machine, special attention should be paid to: seams of hidden cavities of the bottom ( possible pockets of corrosion), door edges ( the paint is bubbling), sealing seams in the area windshield and a radiator grille installed in the bumper. On some examples, over time, the paint on the door handles and bumpers begins to peel off. There are also complaints about the resistance to scratches and chips on the windshield and front optics, so before purchasing, be sure to check the presence of brand markings on these parts, you may have a reason to bargain.

Engines

The first generation Ford Kuga was equipped with the following power units: gasoline - 2.5 (200 hp); diesel TDCI 2.0 (136, 140 and 163 hp).

Gasoline

The gasoline engine is time-tested and has proven itself well not only in Ford cars, but also in Volvo. Speaking of reliability of this engine, then with timely maintenance of problems it will not cause problems for long enough ( declared engine life more than 500,000 km). Common shortcomings of the power unit include the unreliability of the crankcase ventilation system, weak seals and ignition modules. Also, the disadvantages include high cost turbines, the service life of which rarely exceeds 200,000 km.

There are also complaints about the branded fuel pump (it lasts 2-3 years), therefore, when replacing it, it is better to give preference high-quality analogue. The cooling radiator clogs quite quickly, which in turn can lead to overheating of the engine, in order to avoid possible problems it must be washed at least once a year. Over time, it loses its tightness exhaust system(wear appears at the joints of the pipes). The timing drive is driven by a toothed belt; the lifespan declared by the manufacturer is 120,000 km, but many owners recommend changing it every 90-100 thousand km.

On all types of engines, lambdas and ignition modules are not famous for their reliability, and glow plugs are not diesel engines They serve frankly little. Generators are also not famous for their reliability: they fail after mud baths, and are especially vulnerable on cars with an overrunning clutch. The fuel level sensor, as on related models, can “die” even with low mileage.

Diesel

Unlike the gasoline power unit, diesel engines are equipped chain drive Timing belt, which, if the engine is not serviced in a timely manner, can present an unpleasant surprise ( chain stretches). When using low-quality fuel, problems can also arise with the fuel system - they fail prematurely fuel injectors, injection pump, EGR valve and particulate filter. If you use low-viscosity oil SAE20 and even SAE30, there is a high probability of scoring on the crankshaft and its bearings. Often, owners of used Ford Kuga are faced with a sudden deterioration in the dynamics of the car, in most cases this is due to air being sucked into the fuel system or at the inlet. For the same reason, dips may appear during sudden acceleration and vibration when the engine operates in the range of 1800-2000 rpm.

The engine mounts use rubber, which becomes very hard in the cold, which is why in the winter the interior feels increased vibration while the engine is running idle speed. Owners of copies from the first years of production are often faced with the need to replace the particulate filter sensor. On 163-horsepower engines, a turbocharger can cause trouble ( turbine blades receive mechanical damage and bend), for this reason even a service campaign was carried out. At a mileage of 150-200 thousand km, the dual-mass flywheel needs to be replaced ( There is a metallic grinding noise when accelerating). Rarely, but still, there are problems with the glow plug control unit and the vacuum pump of the brake system.

Transmission

The first generation Ford Kuga was equipped with three types of gearboxes - a six-speed manual, a five-speed automatic transmission, and a six-speed robotic transmission, Power Shift, from Getrag. All boxes are quite reliable and, with timely maintenance, rarely bother their owners. The only exception can be a robotic gearbox. Most often, problems with this transmission arise due to untimely service (solenoids and clutch kit fail). Oil leaks and vibrations of the unit, as a rule, are the result of the fact that the unit has repeatedly overheated: most likely, the oil is extremely contaminated and the clutch slips under prolonged load.

But the all-wheel drive system cannot boast of flawless operation. The most common problem is caused by the Haldex-3 clutch, which does not like heavy loads and frequent slipping. On average, the clutch life is 50-70 thousand km ( pump fails), repairing the coupling will cost 300-500 USD. Starting in 2009, the manufacturer began installing fourth-generation Haldex couplings, which have a longer pump life. You should not delay replacing the pump, as this may lead to failure of the “DEM” clutch control unit, the replacement of which will cost 1200-1500 USD. You can try to find an electrician who will undertake the restoration of the unit, thereby saving about 1000 USD. Also, common problems with the all-wheel drive system include leaking clutch seals.

Used Ford Kuga chassis

The independent suspension of the Ford Kuga is similar in design to the co-platform Ford Focus, but is not interchangeable: the front is MacPherson strut, the rear is multi-link. If we talk about the reliability of the chassis, then, in general, it is reliable and allows you to move with confidence on uneven surfaces. Most often you will have to change the stabilizer struts and bushings on both axles ( the front ones last 30-50 thousand km, the rear ones 40-60 thousand km). Wheel bearings, depending on the radius of the wheel, run 80-120 thousand km. Shock absorbers under moderate loads will last 130-150 thousand km. The silent blocks of the front levers are changed every 150-200 thousand km, the rear ones last for about three years, regardless of mileage. At each maintenance it is recommended to lubricate the fastening rear control arms, if this is not done, the fasteners of the rear wishbones will become tightly stuck, making it impossible to adjust the wheel alignment.

The steering is equipped with electric power steering and causes virtually no trouble. Steering ends last about 100,000 km, traction up to 200,000 km. Brake system, in principle, is reliable, but it is worth considering the fact that when worn out brake pads more than 50%, squeaking is possible when moving in reverse after a long movement forward. Also, it is worth noting the need to maintain disk mechanisms.

Salon

The interior of the Ford Kuga is made of enough quality materials, also, I would like to note high quality assembly, despite this, crickets appear in the cabin over the years. More often extraneous sounds The rear door trim, trunk shelf and seats are annoying. When inspecting the car, pay attention to the condition of the door seals, as they begin to fall apart after 4-5 years of operation. If there is moisture in the cabin, there may be two reasons: a dried out seal on the air conditioner pipe or a sealant on the weld seams under the windshield. If the problem is not corrected in time, moisture can damage electrical units, the replacement of which will not be cheap. As for electronics, the most annoying things here are the power windows and the GEM module ( external lighting and light signaling), no other widespread problems were identified.

Result:

Operating experience of the Ford Kuga has shown that this car is quite not a bad option for second-hand purchase, this fact is confirmed by high reliability ratings and positive reviews owners. When choosing a car, it is better to give preference to vehicles produced after 2009.

Advantages:

  • High ground clearance.
  • Economical power units.
  • Reliable suspension.

Flaws:

  • Short service life of the Haldex coupling pump
  • High cost of original spare parts.
  • Small trunk volume.

Ford cars are in demand in our market. The products have won love among consumers for their reliability, simplicity and comfort. Today, every Ford model sold official dealer, optionally equipped with an automatic transmission.

Automatic transmission is a popular type of transmission among car enthusiasts; the box has managed to occupy the right niche, and the demand for it is constantly growing. Among the automatic transmissions installed on the company's cars, the 6F35 automatic transmission is considered a successful model. In our region, the unit is known for Ford Kuga, Mondeo and Focus. Structurally, the box has been designed and tested, however, the 6F35 automatic transmission has problems.

Description of box 6F35

Automatic transmission 6F35, this is a joint project Ford companies and GM, which began in 2002. Structurally, the product corresponds to its predecessor, the GM 6T40 (45) box, from which the mechanics were taken. Distinctive features of the 6F35 are electrics, outputs designed for various vehicle layouts and pallets.

Brief technical specifications and information about what gear ratios are used in the box are presented in the table:

Variable gearbox, brand 6F35
Variable gearbox, type Automatic
Transmission Hydromechanical
Number of gears 6 forward, 1 reverse

Box gear ratios:

1 broadcast boxes 4,548
2nd gear transmission 2,964
3rd gear transmission 1,912
4th gear box 1,446
5th gear box 1,000
6th gear box 0,746
Reverse box 2,943

Final drive, type

Front Cylindrical
Rear Hypoid
Gear number 3,510

Automatic transmissions are produced in America, at Ford factories located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Some components are made and assembled at GM factories.

Since 2008, the box has been installed on cars with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, American Ford And Japanese Mazda. Automatic machines used on cars with a power unit of less than 2.5 liters differ in comparison with automatic machines that are installed on cars with an engine capacity of 3 liters.

The 6F35 automatic transmission is unified, built on a modular principle, automatic transmission components are changed in blocks. The method is borrowed from early model 6F50(55).

In 2012, the design of the product underwent changes; the electrical and hydraulic components of the box began to differ. Some components of the mechanism installed on vehicles in 2013, they stopped being suitable for early modifications. The second generation of the box received the “E” index in the marking and became known as 6F35E.

Box 6F35 problems

Complaints from car owners are being received Ford Mondeo and Ford Kuga. Symptoms of breakdowns appear in the form of increased pauses when changing gears from second to third. Also often, switching the selector from position R to D is accompanied by shocks, noise, and the turning on of a warning light on the dashboard. Most of the complaints come from cars that have an automatic transmission paired with a 2.5-liter (150 hp) power plant.

The shortcomings of the box, one way or another, are associated with incorrect driving style, control settings, and oil. The 6F35 automatic transmission, the service life, level and purity of the fluid, which are interconnected, does not tolerate the load of cold lubrication. Warm up the automatic transmission 6F35 in winter time necessary, otherwise premature repairs cannot be avoided.

On the other hand, dynamic driving overheats the box, which leads to early aging of the oil. Old oil wears out the gaskets and seals of the box. As a result, after a run of 30-40 thousand kilometers, insufficient pressure of the transmission fluid occurs in the components. This prematurely wears the valve plate and solenoids.

Failure to promptly resolve the issue of a drop in oil pressure leads to slipping and wear of the hydraulic transformer clutches. Replacement of worn parts, hydraulic unit, solenoids, oil seals and pump bushings is required.

The lifespan of an automatic transmission depends, among other things, on the settings of the control module. The first boxes came out with settings that suggested aggressive driving. This increased efficiency and reduced fuel consumption. However, we had to pay with the resource of the box and early failure. Late-release products were placed within strict limits that limited the driver and prevented them from being incapacitated. hydraulic block and box transformer.

Replacing transmission fluid in automatic transmission 6F35

Changing the oil in the 6F35 Ford Kuga automatic transmission depends on the operating conditions of the vehicle. During standard operation, which involves driving on asphalt, the fluid is changed after every 45 thousand kilometers. If the car was operated at sub-zero temperatures, experienced slippage, or was subjected to in an aggressive manner driving, used as a traction device, etc., replacement is carried out after every 20 thousand kilometers.

You can determine the need for an oil change by the degree of wear. When performing this operation, they focus on the color, smell, and structure of the liquid. The condition of the oil is assessed on a cold and hot box. When checking for hot automatic transmission It is recommended to drive 2-3 kilometers to lift sediment from the bottom. Normal oil, red color, no burning smell. The presence of chips, a burning smell or a black color of the liquid indicates the need for urgent replacement, insufficient level Liquids in the box are not allowed.

Possible causes of leaks:

  • Severe wear on the gearbox shafts;
  • Wear of box seals;
  • Runout of the gearbox input shaft;
  • Aging of the box seal;
  • Insufficient tightening of the box mounting bolts;
  • Deterioration of the sealant layer;
  • Premature wear valve plate boxes;
  • Clogged channels and plungers of the box;
  • Overheating and, as a result, wear of components and parts of the box.

When partially changing the oil in a 6F35 Ford Kuga automatic transmission yourself, perform the following steps:

  • Warm up the box by driving 4-5 kilometers, testing all switching modes;
  • Place motor vehicle exactly on an overpass or pit, move the gearbox selector to the “N” position;
  • Unscrew drain plug and drain the used liquid into a previously prepared container. Check to see if there are any sawdust or metal inclusions in the liquid; their presence requires contacting service for further possible repairs;
  • Install the drain plug in place, using a wrench with a pressure gauge, check the tightening torque, equal to 12 Nm;
  • Open the hood, unscrew the filler plug of the box. Fill in new transmission fluid through the filler hole with a volume equal to the volume of the drained used fluid, approximately 3 liters;
  • Tighten the plug, start it power plant car. Let the engine run for 3-5 minutes, move the shift selector to all positions with a pause of several seconds in each mode;
  • Repeat the procedure of draining and filling in new oil 2-3 times, this will clean the system as much as possible from impurities and old fluid;
  • After finally replacing the fluid, check the temperature of the lubricant;
  • Check the fluid level in the box to ensure it meets the required standard;
  • Check the box and seals for fluid leaks.

Ford Kuga 2008–2012

In Russia, Ford Kuga did not become a bestseller. And here the company’s marketing policy played a significant role. After all, the car debuted on our market in one single configuration - with a turbodiesel and manual transmission transmission If in Europe such a tandem for a crossover is the order of the day, then in our country sales of this version were neither shaky nor slow. According to statistics, the lion's share of crossover sales in Russia is made up of a couple gasoline engine- “automatic”. In addition, the Ford Kuga turned out to be unexpectedly expensive, which also did not help increase demand. And the 2.5-liter, which appeared in 2009 Gas engine, with which an automatic transmission was installed as an option, did not fundamentally change the situation. Although the car has a lot of advantages.

The car, built on the Ford C-Max platform, has excellent driving performance and refined handling. And in terms of cross-country ability on light off-road conditions, Kuga will give a head start to many of its classmates. And the equipment of the car will please you. The basic Trend crossover came with four airbags, a stabilization system, air conditioning, a CD radio, and electric windows and heated mirrors. And the Titanium version included dual-zone climate control, leather and fabric trim, alloy wheels, as well as light and rain sensors. Moreover, dealers sold the crossover with both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive.

Engine

For the Ford Kuga, a 2.5 liter petrol turbo engine (200 hp) and a 2 liter turbodiesel (136 hp) were offered. The latter began to produce 140 or 163 hp since 2009. depending on the version.

The two-liter turbodiesel (136 hp), created in cooperation with the PSA concern, turned out to be extremely reliable. Dealers did not even reduce the service mileage, leaving it the same as for European cars - 15 thousand km. However, the Check Engine light that often lights up on the dashboard calls on owners to change the oil much earlier. The reason is banal. Due to the high sulfur content in our diesel fuel, the particulate filter could not cope with its function - its channels became coked. Having recognized an emergency situation, the engine control unit sharply increased the fuel supply, thereby raising the exhaust temperature to burn out sulfur and soot in the filter. As a result, excess diesel fuel ended up in the oil, which had to be renewed ahead of schedule. Occasionally this even led to engine repair. If the filter became clogged to death, you had to buy a new one. And at dealers it costs about 70,000 rubles. True, you can find it on the Internet at one and a half times cheaper. In 2009, Ford installed a separate injector with its own pump, which supplied fuel directly in front of the particulate filter, where it was ignited. Thus the problem was solved.

The two-liter turbodiesel is the most popular Kuga power unit. It has no problems, except for the particulate filter, which has become more reliable since 2009. The timing belt is changed (RUB 13,900) after 150 thousand km or 10 years of operation.

U gasoline turbo engine 2.5 l (200 hp) after 60-80 thousand km the camshaft seals leaked. The parts themselves cost 950 rubles, and the work will cost 5850 rubles. Occasionally, the plastic protection of the timing mechanism was destroyed, and small pieces of plastic fell under the timing belt. And then the valves met the pistons. Block head repair - RUB 33,000. But, surprisingly, there were no such problems with this engine on Volvo cars!

Transmission

Manual 6-speed gearbox Ford gears Kuga is not burdened with chronic defects. And the oil is filled in for the entire service life of the unit. The clutch lasts for an average of 120 thousand km. Replacement from dealers - 26,000 rubles. There are also flattering reviews about the 5-band automatic transmission Aisin AW55, which is considered maintenance-free. However, on a used Kuga with long runs It’s still better to update the oil (RUB 7,500) and carry out a full diagnosis. But there are questions about the 6-speed PowerShift transmission with two “wet” clutches. The clutch pack wears out quite quickly (RUB 58,900). Mechatronics, the so-called electrohydraulic control unit, is not durable. Replacement - from 77,000 rubles. And only dealers and large specialized technical centers can change and configure the box correctly.

During the entire production period, the Kuga was equipped with a Haldex multi-plate clutch with electromagnetic control of the third and fourth generation. So, in its third generation, the hydraulic pump often became unusable (from 35,000 rubles). At the same time, the car became front-wheel drive, and the corresponding symbol lit up on the instrument panel. But the unit of a later release lost this defect and is considered very reliable. However, lovers of off-road forays should be warned that the clutch overheats and “dies” due to prolonged slipping. But the remaining elements of the all-wheel drive transmission are long-lived.

Chassis and body

The Kuga suspension was inherited from the Ford C-Max compact van. The crossover is increased by 50 mm wheelbase and 43 mm track. MacPherson struts are installed at the front, and a multi-link design with a reinforced subframe is installed at the rear. The chassis is strong - even the stabilizer struts (1,740 rubles each) are replaced closer to a hundred thousand kilometers. Ball joints(6500 rubles each) are also long-lived. We can only call them weak wheel bearings, which began to howl already at 30-50 thousand km. Moreover, the rear ones come complete with a hub (16,000 rubles each), and the front ones are replaced separately and cost 4,200 rubles each.

design Kuga suspension borrowed from the Ford C-Max. The only difference is the increased track and wheelbase for the crossover. Before the due date, at 70 thousand km, the wheel bearings are changed (4,270 rubles each). The stabilizer struts last the same amount of time (RUB 1,740 each)

A steering rack (from 38,000 rubles) with an electric pump lasts for 150 thousand km, and tips (2000 rubles each) and rods (1850 rubles each) last more than 100 thousand km.

The body is strong, but paint coating Chips appear quickly. The heated windshield is not durable. Flying stones cause potholes to appear, from which cracks quickly spread. Low beam bulbs often burn out, but changing them yourself is not easy. To do this you have to dismantle the headlight unit.

Restyling

Almost at the end of their career, they offered another, maximum, Titanium package with the S (Sport) prefix for the 2012 model year Ford Kuga. The manufacturer presents the appearance of this version of the car as a restyling, which was intended to stir up interest in the retiring first-generation crossover. This modification differs from other cars in the family by LED running lights, and rims and a spoiler of the original design. And in the cabin, double-stitched chairs and black inserts on the door handles instead of light “aluminum” ones attract attention. Moreover, for the Titanium S version, only the most powerful engines in the range were offered: a 2.5-liter gasoline “five” with a turbocharger producing 200 hp. and a 2.0 liter turbodiesel (163 hp).

Verdict

, editor:

Truly reliable cars are not often found. But Ford Kuga is one of them. Even a particulate filter that is not particularly durable can be made to last longer by periodically cleaning it on a crossover with high speed so that the unit operates in regeneration (self-cleaning) mode. In addition, there is the practice of “burning out the filter.” And if you don’t want to test the strength of a robotic PowerShift boxes, choose the manual version or the petrol version with a hydromechanical automatic transmission.

SHORTscope: testing the most affordable Ford Kuga
with automatic transmission

Especially for those who do not trust turbo engines and newfangled robotic gearboxes, Ford has assembled an “old-school” version of the Kuga crossover - with a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. At the same time, the “classic” turned out to be only 10 thousand more expensive than the simplest “Kuga” with a turbine and “mechanics”: the starting price is 899 thousand rubles. Tempting.

Of course, miracles do not happen: the naturally aspirated Kuga comes only with front drive. The only thing you can pay extra for is a more “dressy” package. Is this all-wheel drive necessary? Sellers assure that this is not an essential option: most customers vote for gasoline and two-pedal operation in combination with an adequate price, the rest does not matter. How will the Kuga 2.5 reward such attention? Let's try to figure it out.

In all other respects, except for the naturally aspirated power unit, this is the same Ford Kuga, which the site tested last spring in sand pits of the Moscow region - then we significantly rolled it into the mud. It's a pity that with the new front-wheel drive version you can't fool around like that anymore. On the other hand, Ford Kuga is not bought to plow arable land. This is just a good city car with a fairly high ground clearance (198 mm), comfortable interior and good acceleration dynamics. But the brand term Smart, which is actively used in Kuga advertising campaigns, is only applicable to an atmospheric SUV with a stretch. Neither of the two available equipment options provides modern systems, making life easier: no parking assistance, no blind spot monitoring, no opening the tailgate with a wave of your foot. It’s good that there is climate control and an audio system.

It is quite difficult to compare this Kuga modification with others in terms of driving characteristics, because automatic transmission Until recently, only all-wheel drive versions were equipped, which means a more confident start and better weight distribution due to the presence of a clutch and rear axle gearbox. In addition, the maximum torque of 230 Nm on a naturally aspirated engine is available only from 4000 rpm, while on a turbocharged engine it is 240 Nm at 1600 rpm. Therefore, in order to somehow accelerate in a car with a 2.5-liter engine, you have to drop a gear or two down, but in a car with a turbo engine you can do without unnecessary movements: in which gear you were driving, you accelerated in that gear. Enough traction.

By essentially Ford Kuga in new modification is an ordinary hatchback, only raised above the ground. The disadvantage is that the car is heavy. Eg, Ford Focus weighs 1,300 kg, and the hero of our story weighs about 1,600! This negatively affects both the dynamics of acceleration and the nature of braking, as well as appetite. The declared gasoline consumption in urban mode is 11.2 liters per 100 km, and in reality this figure will undoubtedly be higher.

The fact that “our” Ford Kuga is not equipped with a 4x4 transmission does not mean that it is helpless off-road. In most cases it is enough high ground clearance and the correctly chosen trajectory of movement. So, we took a rather steep climb with a deep rut in the middle without difficulty. However, if it rains and the ground gets wet, the number will not work.

On the other hand, to get an SUV for 900 thousand rubles, even a single-wheel drive one, with an automatic transmission, a normal engine and standard set options in the form of an air conditioning system, an audio system, an on-board computer and 17-inch wheels are a great success. One of the bestsellers Russian market Nissan Qashqai with CVT, front-wheel drive, 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine and in a similar configuration 70 thousand rubles more expensive, Kia Sportage will require an overpayment of 40 thousand. It turns out that the balance between price and quality has been maintained. The marketers at Ford's Russian office are probably right when they say that an automatic transmission and a relatively unpretentious power unit are an adequate exchange for all-terrain capabilities. At this price tag, we'll sign up.

Scene

The Church of the Sign of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubrovitsy is a unique Orthodox church, which is located just 16 km from the Moscow Ring Road, in the Podolsk district of the Moscow region. This structure, unusual for Russian architecture in style, was built in 1690-1703. According to one version, Prince Golitsyn ordered craftsmen from Italy to build the temple. There is a small park next to the church, which is kept perfectly clean and tidy.

Options

Ford Kuga with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine, 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive is available in Trend and Trend Plus trim levels, the simplest in the Ford coordinate system. The car will cost at most 899,000 rubles (special offer), while the “consumer kit” is not so spartan: seven airbags, ABS with EBD, system directional stability ESP, assistant that helps you move uphill without rolling back, air conditioning, audio system with MP3 support and steering wheel controls, on-board computer, fog lights, steering column adjustment for tilt and reach, engine start button. Trend package Plus is complemented by dual-zone climate control system, heated windshield and front seats, alarm system, 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and tinting rear windows. Ford Kuga 2.5 in the Trend Plus version can be purchased for 1,059,000 rubles.

Competitors

Despite the fact that the Ford Kuga has a dime a dozen opponents, many of them have no available configurations with automatic transmission. Thus, the Mazda CX-5 with an automatic transmission significantly exceeds a million (from 1,065,000 rubles), the Toyota RAV4 has the cheapest “non-manual” version starting from 1.1 million, and Honda CR-V- and even from 1,319,000 rubles.

Nissan Qashqai

The most budget Qashqai with an automatic transmission costs 970,000 rubles. For this price we get a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine with a capacity of 144 hp. p., a continuously variable Xtronic variator and an impressive list of amenities: six airbags, ESP stability control system, air conditioning, heated front seats, MP3 music, cruise control, headlight washers and so on. At the same time, the “Japanese” is 15 cm shorter than the Kuga, which is why the rear seat in the Ford is a little more spacious, but the volume of luggage compartments of the competitors is almost the same: the difference is 26 liters in favor of the “blue oval”.

Suzuki New SX4

Another dangerous rival from the Country rising sun. Suzuki New SX4 with front-wheel drive and a CVT can be purchased for only 809,000 rubles. The engine here is simpler (1.6 liters, 117 hp), but there are no fewer bells and whistles: seven airbags, ESP, cruise control, electric side mirrors, heated front seats, air conditioning, audio system with MP3, multifunction steering wheel, side computer, roof rails. True, like the Qashqai, the New SX4 is slightly inferior to the Kuga in size, and size, as we know, matters in Russia.

Hyundai ix35/Kia Sportage

This couple of “Koreans” are an eternal irritant for Japanese and European crossover manufacturers. Behind front-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission, sellers want a reasonable 864,900 rubles (pre-styling petrol Sportage 2.0), but you can’t expect any frills in terms of equipment for this amount. Judge for yourself: two airbags instead of seven, no stability control system (ABS, of course, is available), and besides, Korean SUVs are deprived of pleasant little things like starting the engine with a button.

Skoda Yeti

The updated Czech crossover can be ordered in a front-wheel drive version with naturally aspirated engine and automatic transmission - just like the Ford Kuga. However, the engine in the Yeti is more modest - only 1.6 liters of displacement, power 110 hp. With. Most affordable car in the Active configuration it costs 816,000 rubles, but this version of the Yeti is much more ascetic than the Kuga: two airbags, minus the audio system, power windows only on the front doors. More or less equal to the Kuga in terms of stuffing of the Yeti Ambition. There are already four pillows, a music center with MP3 support, cruise control, heated front seats, roof rails, and fog lights. The cost of such a car is 883,000 rubles.

Volkswagen Tiguan

Unlike its Czech relative, the Tiguan does not have a naturally aspirated engine, and the “ordinary” automatic transmission is installed only on the 210-horsepower version, which is estimated at more than one and a half million rubles. On the other hand, at a special price of 999,000 rubles, you can purchase a car close in size to the Ford Kuga with a turbocharged 1.4-liter internal combustion engine (150 hp) and a robotic gearbox DSG gears. Initial equipment Trend&Fun already includes six airbags, a stabilization system, an electronic locking front differential, a dual-zone climate control system, an MP3 audio system, heated front seats and roof rails.

The first generation of the urban crossover from the German division of Ford, released in 2008, was received rather restrainedly by consumers; the car did not become a bestseller. The reasons can be looked for and analyzed for a long time, but we will not do this, since all this has already been done by the manufacturer himself, who studied in detail all his shortcomings and tried to correct them when creating the second generation Ford Kuga 2013 model year.

Dimensions of Ford Kuga 2013

First, let's look at overall characteristics ford kuga 2013. Updated SUV began to look more mature and aggressive, which was facilitated not only by the modernization of the head optics, bumper and radiator grille, but also by a change in the dimensions of the car. So, with the same previous generation wheelbase equal to 2690 mm, the second generation crossover became longer by 81 mm (up to 4524 mm), but at the same time became 8 mm narrower (1702 mm) and 4 mm lower (1838 mm). The 2013 Ford Kuga's ground clearance has increased by 10 mm and is now an impressive 198 mm.

The 2013 Ford Kuga also offers more spacious luggage space compared to the previous generation (it has increased by 46 liters to 456 liters, and when folded rear seats- as much as 1653 liters), which is equipped not only with an electric door, but also with a unique Hands Free system. To open the trunk, you don’t have to get your hands or shoes dirty - you just need to slide your foot under rear bumper. It is worth noting that even adhering dirt or snow does not interfere with the operation of the sensor installed there.

Engines and transmission Ford Kuga 2013

Range of power units installed on new crossover, consists of two petrol and two diesel engines, during the development of which engineers paid special attention to the issue of efficiency.

Gasoline engines belong to the family of modern Ford EcoBoost engines, equipped with turbochargers, direct fuel injection systems and systems that regulate valve timing:

  • The 150-horsepower 1.6-liter power unit has a maximum torque of 240 Nm and is capable of accelerating the crossover to 100 km/h in 9.7 seconds with a top speed of 195 km/h. Fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is 8.3 liters in cities and 5.6 liters outside of it. True, these indicators are typical for a single-wheel drive version with a manual transmission. With the same engine, but with all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox, the Ford Kuga 2013 technical characteristics are as follows: acceleration to hundreds - 10.7 seconds; maximum speed, electronically limited, - 192 km/h; fuel consumption when moving around the city is 10.2 liters per 100 kilometers, on the highway - 6.3 liters;
  • The 182-horsepower 1.6-liter engine has a maximum torque of 240 Nm and provides acceleration to hundreds in 9.7 seconds, and the maximum speed that it can reach is 200 km/h. Fuel consumption in a metropolis reaches 10.2 liters per 100 kilometers, and outside it drops to 6.3 liters.

Diesel engines belong to the proprietary family of Duratorq TDCi turbocharged engines:

  • The 140-horsepower 2.0-liter power unit develops a maximum torque of 320 Nm and allows a speed of up to 187 km/h, providing acceleration to hundreds in 11.2 seconds. Fuel consumption when driving around the city is 7.3 liters per 100 kilometers, on the highway - 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers;
  • The 163-horsepower 2.0-liter engine has a maximum torque of 340 Nm and accelerates the 2013 Ford Kuga crossover to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds. Maximum speed electronically limited to 196 km/h. Fuel consumption in the city is about 7.4 liters per 100 kilometers, outside the city - 5.5 liters per 100 kilometers.

Gasoline power units are paired with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission; for diesel engines, either the same manual transmission, or robotic PowerShift.

Innovative solutions in Ford Kuga 2013

To begin with, let's note robotic gearbox PowerShift, which is able to pre-select next transmission, minimizing power and speed losses during switching. Extremely fast and smooth transitions from one gear to another make driving incredibly enjoyable, and also provide significant fuel savings and reduced emissions. At the same time, the intelligent system itself selects the optimal gear, depending on the current situation. For example, when overtaking, it can turn on downshift, due to which it is ensured high power for faster acceleration and ensures safe completion of the maneuver.

When driving a Ford Kuga crossover with a manual transmission, the gear shift indicator located on the dashboard can be extremely useful. It determines the optimal moment to change to the next gear, making car trips more economical.

Another innovative system aimed at saving fuel is called Ford Eco Mode. It takes into account the speed at which the car is traveling, the most frequently selected gears, braking style, duration of trips and other factors, based on which it provides advice to reduce fuel consumption in accordance with the driving style of a particular driver.

The intelligent all-wheel drive system, which the new 2013 model year Ford Kuga is equipped with, manages to assess the situation on the road twenty times in the period of time that a person needs to blink an eye. At the same time, there is a constant redistribution of torque between the wheels to ensure optimal handling and maximum traction with the road surface. It is worth noting that the system is activated only when it is really necessary, therefore, on relatively flat and straight sections of the road, the crossover actually drives in front-wheel drive mode, due to which it is possible to achieve significant fuel savings.

The Curve Control system also provides invaluable assistance to the driver, which compares the actual vehicle speed with the desired speed at a specific turning point and corrects it in case of deviation from the norm. This is done based on information received from sensors for vehicle speed, lateral roll, lateral acceleration, wheel speed and steering angle. All data is analyzed a hundred times every second, and if the trajectory of movement turns out to be incorrect, Curve Control begins to correct it by braking each wheel individually, applying different braking forces to them. When entering a corner at too high a speed, this system can drop approximately 16 km/h every second.

Ford engineers have also worked fruitfully on the issue of reducing road and wind noise, as a result of which the second-generation Kuga's interior can easily claim to be one of the quietest in its class. This was achieved through the use of a special aerodynamic design of the side mirrors, more rigid door frames, new seals, thicker glass and modernization of chassis components. The special ClimAir deflector also helps eliminate noise and turbulence, allowing you to keep the windows on the front doors open even when it rains.
